JOB SUMMARY

The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic radiographic procedures with both stationary and portable equipment.  A technologist is responsible for all functions necessary to complete the procedures, such as, assessing patient condition, image processing, documentation, and patient transportation.  Communication and collaboration with all other healthcare team members is paramount.  All actions shall be performed in adherence to hospital policy, federal and state regulations, and the highest professional practice standards.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    A radiologic technologist performs radiographs as directed by policy and procedure manuals.  To do so effectively, the individual must demonstrate:

    • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, radiation physics, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Competency in the safe operation of all radiographic equipment both stationary and portable.
    • Patient Assessment Skills
    • Effective problem solving and decision making skills.
    • Positive customer service orientation.   

    EQUIPMENT/TOOLS/SOFTWARE

    A radiology technologist should have working knowledge of:

    • All fixed and portable Diagnostic Imaging equipment
    • Both the HIS and the RIS
    • PACs and teleradiology

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    This individual is responsible for:

    • Performing all assigned radiographs.
    • Communication with DI team members and other department staff members to promote an environment of cooperation and coordination which will result in the best patient outcomes possible.
    • Correct documentation of all images, work requests, and associated files.
    • Assessing situations; exercising care, discretion and judgement. Assumes responsibility for professional decisions and acts in the best interest of the patient at all times
    • Delivering patient care and services unrestricted by the personal attributes of the patient or the nature of the disease or illness. 
    • Contributes as needed by performing any and all clerical/ancillary staff functions.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Performs tasks that are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job.
    • Participates in staff meetings, educational programs, committees, QA/QC activities, and mandatory in-services.
    • Demonstrates initiative in personal/ professional development.
    • Presents a professional image.
    • Assists with control of costs through the judicious use of human and material resources.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Requirements Include

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

    • Graduate of an accredited program for radiology technology.
    • Individual MUST possess and maintain a current radiographer license from the State of Ohio Department of Health and a current A.R.R.T. registry as an R.T.
    • Current CPR certification required.
    • Preference will be given to individuals with past hospital experience.
