JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for registering patients, monitoring referrals, collecting co-pays and scheduling appointments.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Excellent organizational, communication and computer skills desired. 

EQUIPMENT/TOOLS/SOFTWARE

Computer, phone, copier, fax, scanner, Microsoft Office package, Excel, Practice management software.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Registers patients by gathering, verifying and entering in demographic and insurance information.
  • Scans and updates Practice Management Systems patient records with driver’s license, insurance cards and financial policy.
  • Pull and organize patient records for upcoming visits, including printing of charge forms and placing in date and time order.
  • Chart pulls are to be done a week and one day prior to patient visits.
  • Obtains signed registration sheets, permissions to file claims, releases, etc.
  • Reviews schedules for referrals needed, obtains those that the office takes responsibility for and works with patients to obtain others.
  • Collects co-payments and personal payments.
  • Prepares day sheet and balances cash drawer each day.
  • Handles inquiries about insurance accepted, office hours, services, locations, exam fees, doctor information, etc.
  • Verifies upcoming appointments.
  • Handles telephone receptionist responsibilities as needed.
  • Maintains personal reference book on insurance companies and coverages.
  • Assists other patient staff as needed.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with patients, visitors, physicians, staff and other persons contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to enter data into computer.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Completes special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Promotes continuous quality improvement/customer service efforts.

  • Enhance the services provided to patients, their families, physician/practitioners and members of the staff by demonstrating positive attitudes and positive actions through a display of courtesy, congeniality, cooperation, sensitivity and professionalism.
