Shoulder Surgery or Replacement

Shoulder Surgery or Replacement
Conditions like Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, rotator cuff tears, and fractures can all lead to shoulder deterioration and Shoulder Surgery or Replacement.
Schedule a Consultation to have your shoulder evaluated.

An evaluation for shoulder surgery or replacement with a KCH orthopaedic surgeon consists of several components:

  • A medical history. Your orthopaedic surgeon will learn more about your general health, shoulder pain, and ways it's inhibiting your ability to function.
  • A physical exam. Our team will review your shoulder range of motion, stability, and strength.
  • X-rays. X-rays help to determine any damage to your shoulder. They can show loss of the healthy joint space between bones, any flattening or irregularity, bone spurs, and loose pieces of bone floating inside the joint.
  • Other tests. Your surgeon may order blood tests, a computed tomography (CT) scan, or a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan to assess your bone and affected tissue.

Once your evaluation results are in, the provider will discuss whether shoulder joint replacement is an option to restore your mobility.

Our team may also discuss other treatment options, such as:

  • Medications
  • Injections
  • Physical therapy
  • Other types of surgery
