My Weight Loss Journey: Brooke

Weight Management Patient - Brooke

Hi, my name is Brooke Sapp, and I am a 1-year post-op Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass patient. I started my weight loss journey in 2017.

At my heaviest, I weighed well over 350lbs, hurt all over, and was always tired. I was always the "fat/chubby" girl growing up. I hated shopping for school because I could never find "in-style" clothes. I was raised that you ate everything on your plate. As I got older and on my own, I found that eating processed and premade meals were the easiest thing to do, so that's what I ate. I did all the yo-yo dieting stuff and over-the-counter "miracle weight loss pills," but nothing ever worked. Then one day, I was sitting in my recliner watching TV, and a person on the show hurt their knee. I looked down at my knee and thought, "if I hurt my knee, how would they know because you can't even see my knee." At that point, I decided to do something about my weight. I made posters of what I wanted for my future and hung them on a door, so I would always see them. I started off eating low-carb foods and just walking.

I eventually joined a gym and really enjoyed lifting weights. I started playing pickleball and bought a new bicycle to ride on the trail. I lost about 100 pounds on my own in 2 years.

Then the dreaded COVID pandemic hit.

The gym closed, and I got down and depressed and gained the weight I had lost back. In March 2021, I went to my first appointment with Amy, and we discussed my options. I was over the BMI for surgery at that point but had it in my head that I would get to the BMI that I could have the surgery… I did it once…. I was determined to do it again. It was a long and complex process, but it was worth it. I was scared that I wouldn't be able to do it. With the team's help, I underwent surgery on July 20, 2021. I have lost over 100 pounds and went from a size 26/28 to a size 10/12… 4X to a Large. I feel absolutely wonderful. I have energy. I go to the gym 6 days a week and play pickleball, bike and golf. I take the stairs instead of the elevator. I walk every chance I get. I love being outside in the sun (I used to HATE summer).

I love to shop and can't believe I can go to the regular size department. I hate to sit and not do anything. My life has done a 360, and the best part is that I can see my knee!!!!! If you are hesitant about weight loss, don't be. The weight management team at KCH is phenomenal and has your best interest at heart. Take the chance…call them today!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
