Subject:  Future Nurses Club Banquet and Scholarship Winners

The annual Future Nurses Club Banquet was held recently at the KCH Urgent Care Center Education Room.  Over 25 nurses volunteer their time and talent to provide educational and fun activities that encourage high school students to consider a career in nursing.  Founded in 2006, the Future Nurses Club offers information on the nursing profession to students, their parents and guidance counsellors.

The featured speaker for the event was Carol Dorough, EdD, MSN, RN, of Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Dr. Dorough shared her personal story of why she wanted to become a nurse, how she veered off the path of nursing but eventually found her way back to it.  She encouraged students to explore all the possibilities available today in the specialty areas of nursing.

Scholarship winners were announced for the 2018 Wilbur Gaunder Nursing Scholarships, awarded by the Future Nurses Club of Knox Community Hospital.  Those recipients were Hannah Kinnear, Lauren Trace, and Ashlee Hulse from Mount Vernon High School, Rachel Geiger from Utica High School and Shelby Holt from Danville High School.

KCH Auxiliary to Announce Winners In May

Every year, for at least the last 25 years, the Knox Community Hospital Auxiliary has granted scholarships to Knox County high school seniors pursing health careers.  In the last 10 years, over $110,000 has been awarded.

This year the scholarship committee has considered 32 applications and will be conducting interviews of 23 students to determine the winners.

Funds for the scholarships and the other projects supported by the auxiliary are earned in the KCH Gift Shop, regular jewelry and book sales, and a variety of other fund raisers.  The auxiliary also provides toys for pediatric patients and onesies to newborns.

More than 70 volunteers serve the patients of our community in a variety of roles at Knox Community Hospital. If you would like information on volunteer opportunities at Knox Community Hospital, please contact volunteer coordinator Cathy Rinehart at 740 393 9079.
