Welcome Amanda Poorman, MSN, CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) to KCH!

Have you heard the news?

We have a new Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) on our staff!

But what exactly is a Certified Nurse Midwife?

Here’s some information to clear up the questions you might have:

  • CNM’s are advanced practice nurses who have graduated from a nurse-midwifery education program accredited by the Accredited Commission for Midwifery Education.
  • CNM’s have passed a national certification examination.
  • CNM’s services encompass a full range of primary healthcare services for women from adolescence to beyond menopause.
  • CNM’s services include primary care, women’s health screenings, gynecologic and family planning services, and can include normal newborn care during the first 28 days of life.
  • CNM’s can also treat male partners for sexually transmitted infections.
  • CNM’s in the state of Ohio deliver in a hospital setting or Birthing Center facility and collaborate with physicians based on the needs of their patients.
  • In the hospital setting for labor they are able to provide a “natural” non-medicated birth experience, as well as an experience that may include IV pain medication or epidural pain management, depending on the woman’s choice.

The more you know about certified nurse midwifery, the more you can share accurate information with the women of our community.
