JOB SUMMARY

Conduct and implement comprehensive nutritional assessment for patients at nutritional risk; interpret biochemical and clinical data and screen, identify, and monitor patients at nutritional risk; provide a variety of nutritional therapy intervention methods to resolve nutritional crisis and ensure health maintenance.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

General knowledge of the principles and practices of nutritional aspects of care.  Ability to establish and implement nutrition policies and procedures which are consistent with the Manual of Clinical Dietetics.  Ability to plan and manage the nutritional aspects of patients of all ages in accordance with physicians’ orders.  Ability to communicate with patients and/or families to instruct, guide, or assist them with nutritional care.  Documents pertinent information in the patient’s medical record.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement individualized dietary care plans utilizing nutritional assessment methodology to include planning individualized menus, and calculation and planning modified diets to meet nutritional needs, ensuring conformance to physician’s orders.

  • Interview patients and review medical and dietary history to determine food preferences and dietary habits and assess nutritional needs; correlate information with patient’s medical progress and plan meal patterns; make appropriate notations and recommendations on the patient’s chart.

  • Evaluate effectiveness of dietary care plan in relation to patient’s medical progress and modify or revise dietary care plan as required; prepare and maintain various records and reports pertaining to dietary services provided.

  • Instruct patients and/or families regarding hospital or home diets; develop and provide instructional materials to assist patients in their dietary program.

  • Participate in rewriting and up-dating diet manual, reviewing and revising clinical nutrition policies and patient menus.

  • Instruct group classes for patients in the areas of diabetes, weight management, and cardiac rehab.

  • Instruct staff in-service classes for nursing and foodservice staff.

  • Interact with pharmacists in regards to TPN formula for patients not feed enterally.

  • Interact with nutritional sales representative to provide optimal selection of enteral products.

  • Comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards.

  • Attends mandatory hospital education annually.

  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Attends department staff meetings.

Requirements Include: 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics.
  • A current Dietitians licensure in the State of Ohio.
  • Maintains a registered dietitian status with the American Dietetics Association.
