Physical Therapist Assistant - Physical Therapy, FT

JOB SUMMARY

The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for delivering quality care to help patients attain maximum functional level.  Care will be provided to patients of all ages from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult to geriatric.  The therapist needs to demonstrate knowledge in caring for orthopedic and neurological involved patients.  The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for supervising Physical Therapist Assistant students.  The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for delivering courteous and respectful customer service.   They must effectively communicate with all customers. Responsible for demonstrating effective collaboration between intra/ inter departments.  Responsible for completing in a timely manner all assigned tasks and duties utilizing multi-tasking skills.    Responsible for assuring confidentiality of patient information and departmental information. Responsible for being knowledgeable of standard of practice for the practice of Physical Therapy in an outpatient, home health and inpatient setting and regulations established by the payers.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates knowledge of department specific EMR program creating evidence based functional measures in each plan of care.
  • Delivering quality care to help patients attain maximum functional level.
  • Communicates to the evaluating Physical Therapist any concerns regarding the patients response to the current plan of care and makes adjustments as indicated in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in caring for orthopedic and neurological involved patients.
  • Assumes responsibility for supervising Physical Therapist Assistants students and delegates responsibilities appropriately.
  • Records proper charging of patients treatments.
  • Educates patients and their caregivers regarding diagnosis, plan of care and established goals.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with team members, physicians and their office staff, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient plan of care.
  • Communicates effectively with payers.
  • Interacts with patients, family members, community members, and vendors in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Maintains patient records accurately with documentation of all aspects of the care delivered.
  • Assists in orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Answers telephone and returns voice mail messages daily.
  • Assists director to problem solve operational issues.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and takes the initiative to implement changes.
  • Assures that patient information is maintained in confidential manner and complies with HIPPA regulations.
  • Assists staff with conflict resolution by providing guidance and support.
  • Participates in identification, development, and follow through of continuous quality improvement measures.
  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task and prioritize work maintaining accuracy of work within established times frames.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Timely communication with director regarding departmental issues.
  • Effective communication with inter and intra departments.
  • Effective communication and rapport with physicians and their office staff.
  • Effective and timely communication and rapport with Wellness Staff.
  • Participates in mandatory in-services, staff meetings and educational programs.
  • Demonstrates an initiative in personal/ professional development.

  • Assists with control of costs through the judicious use of human and material resources.
  • Collection of data in order to assist director with strategic planning of department as well as the daily flow of operations.
  • Assists director in evaluating technical competencies of staff during a probationary period and annual performance appraisals.
  • Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees and departmental strategic plan initiatives, educational programs and mandatory in-services.
  • Input data for web based programs to record patient functional outcomes in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist HIM and Business Office with assuring billing requests from payers are complete and accurate, which includes meeting medical necessity and correct medical diagnoses.
  • Utilizes measures to promote and maintain patient, visitor and personnel safety.
  • Complies with all Joint Commission rules and regulations.
  • Complies with all Rehabilitation Board rules and regulations and professional conduct standards.
  • Supports the mission, values and vision of the organization.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of disaster/emergency procedures and responds appropriately.
Requirements Include: 
  • An Associate's degree in Allied Health Professions in Physical Therapy from an accredited program required
  • Current license as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of Ohio required
  • Current CPR certification required
