Secretary - Diagnostic Imaging, FT

The Diagnostic Imaging Secretary promotes positive patient and family experiences by receiving and greeting all patients and visitors to the Diagnostic Imaging Department with the highest levels of respect and courtesy. Upon receipt of patient information, the secretary analyzes and verifies all registration information. The secretary is then responsible for entering physician orders into the HIS/RIS after careful review and clarification where necessary. Any other information received is then documented, communicated and disseminated as necessary.  During this process, attention to detail, accuracy, and discretion is paramount to maintaining these components of the patients’ electronic medical record. In addition, the Diagnostic Imaging Secretary must be able to perform limited patient care while transferring/transporting patients safely to and from the Diagnostic Imaging Department on occasion.  All actions should be performed in adherence to hospital policy, federal and state regulations, and the highest professional standards with regard to privacy, compliance, and confidentiality.


  • Ability to utilize basic computer skills with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Understanding of customer relations, satisfaction approaches and mediation skills are needed to

          help patients problem solve.

    *    Understanding of radiology procedures to the extent necessary to answer questions for patients

  • General knowledge of registration and hospital billing requirements

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks concurrently

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff.

  • Must be able to maintain a calm and professional demeanor during both high stress and high

          volume situations

  • Working knowledge of anatomy and physiology to process physician orders


  • Greet, instruct, and assist patients and visitors

  • Verify patient registration information

  • Review and clarify physician order prior to entering order into the computer; enter order

  • Generate appropriate orders and necessary forms

  • Communicate with technologists, radiologists, and other healthcare members to ensure that

          orders are complete and accurate

  • Answers telephone and disseminates information appropriately

  • Maintain electronic records, scans, faxes and mail reports and other communications

  • Initiate investigations and document the process through to resolution when patient information is


    *    Provide Diagnostic Imaging medical records for patients or authorized individuals as needed

  • Serves as a resource to patients, staff and physicians when technologists or radiologists are not


  • Ensures safe and timely transfer/transportation of patients to and from the Diagnostic

          Imaging Department as needed

  • Completes special projects and other related duties as assigned

Requirements Include: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous business courses preferred

  • Previous work experience in a medical office setting or hospital preferred

  • Full understanding of numerical and alphabetical filing system

  • Current CPR certification required
