The 28th Annual Go Pink for a Cure was held on June 27, raising over $65,000 to support local patients of the Center for Cancer Care at Knox Community Hospital (KCH).
The Go Pink Committee consists of 10 dedicated women in the Knox County community: Barbara Barry, Chair, Amy Brechler, Diane Carioti, Julie Farmer, Brenda Holcomb, Sara Lynn Kerr, Cindy Miller, Marci Pressler, Peggy Snow, and Teresa York. This year's program was dedicated to the early leadership of the late Carol Sue Owens. The Honoree was the late Karen Buchwald Wright, with Maureen Buchwald present to receive the recognition of her daughter's philanthropic generosity to Go Pink.
More than 100 participants gathered in their assorted pinks to pay tribute to all those affected by breast cancer and to raise funds through donations, golf foursomes, table games, and themed raffle baskets. Many thanks and recognition go to the Mount Vernon Country Club for hosting this well-supported event once again on their beautiful course. As well, the committee thanks keynote speaker Bruce White, President and CEO of KCH, who recognized the committee’s hard work and the generous support of dedicated community members.
In past years, the proceeds from this event have been designated toward the Go Pink fund of the Foundation for KCH. This year, after careful consideration, the Go Pink Committee has decided to allocate the proceeds to the Foundation for KCH’s Linear Accelerator capital campaign! This new equipment will help radiation therapy patients at the Center for Cancer Care. It not only represents a technological advancement but also an investment in the health and well-being of our families, friends, and neighbors. A significant number of patients treated with radiation are breast cancer patients.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among women in the United States, which makes breast cancer prevention and treatment, as well as breast health awareness, critical for our local community. “We are grateful to all the individuals and businesses who generously give to help us raise money for breast health in Knox County,” said Barbara Barry.
